Zafar Iqbal
While working, Babita fell in love with Zafar Iqbal. The famous actor has openly admitted to being in love with this handsome, smart and stylish hero. Zafar Iqbal died of cancer on January 8, 1992.
Rumors spread that he was mentally disturbed after breaking up with Babita. Later, the hero was diagnosed with cancer due to various reasons including his chaotic and uncontrolled lifestyle. At the last moment, Babita also came to know about Zafar Iqbal’s cancer.
They did not see each other until they met on the set. They shot for two days. In one scene, Zafar Iqbal pretended to be a patient in a hospital bed, where Babita played the role of a doctor. After a few days, Zafar-Iqbal really fell ill and had to go to the hospital. That’s when Babita came to know that he was shooting due to cancer.
She was very saddened and heartbroken to hear the news. After convincing the directors, Babita played Zafar Iqbal’s role in a film directed by Badal Khandaker. They acted together for the last time. Babita spoke to Prothom Alo about Zafar-Iqbal’s last days.
She mentioned that towards the end, Zafar Iqbal was not paying much attention during filming. He would often come late, which made many directors hesitate to cast him in their films. That day, Zafar-Iqbal was acting in bed after falling ill. He did not tell anyone, but Babita noticed that he looked sick and unkempt.
She asked him why he was looking like that, wondering if he was sick, but he didn’t answer her. Although she wanted to meet him, Babita was busy and didn’t feel brave enough. Then one day, she got the shocking news that he had died.
Babita went to bid farewell to Zafar Iqbal for the last time when his body was brought to the film studio. It is said that she wore a white saree that day to pay her respects.
